Our internet connection at the office went down for a bit yesterday, and now Chrome can't find youtube.com. I get the
ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
error, even though the site loads perfectly fine in other browsers, and I can access other Google sites. I've tried clearing cookies, dumping cache, releasing and renewing ipconfig, everything I can think of, to no avail. What other options are there to try. I'm running Windows 8.1.DavidDavid

A less extreme way to clear the DNS cache (a potential source of this issue) is to go the
punchrome://net-internals/#dns
page in Chrome and then click the 'Clear host cache' button. This will clear the cache in Chrome and hopefully fix your issue.4,91388 gold badges1818 silver badges5555 bronze badges

No, neither method worked. Google Chrome still doesn't connect to the internet, while Edge works fine. Other services also have difficulty connecting to the internet: One Drive cannot sync, Norton Security cannot update the virus definitions (it says DNS setting is blocking the connection, but I don't see the problem because when I change the DNS address to one of the open DNS addresses, it still doesn't connect.)
My laptop on the other hand works just fine. All the services mentioned above works, and the laptop connects to the same wifi network as this troubled desktop.

I have the exact same problem as Li.
I saw this from someone else's reply and it worked.
1) run cmd as admin
2) enter 'netsh winsock reset'
3) reboot machine

I've recently installed Windows 10 and Edge does connect to the internet, however, Google Chrome is only displaying 'This webpage is not available'.
I can't uninstall (and reinstall) it as it seems to be indicating that a window is open when it's not, any ideas on how I can deal with this to get it active again?
After waiting on a call back from Microsoft, (7.5 Hours)
The tech had me delete my network driver (2015 driver) and use the old driver (2014 driver) and POOF everything started working.
I hope this helps.

This works!
For those with no CMD experience:
- type CMD in the Start Menu's Search box (Cortana, for Win 10)
- right-click the 'Command Prompt' that it finds, and click on Run as Administrator'
- paste netsh winsock reset in the black (DOS) window and hit Enter
- restart Windows and Chrome will work.
If you still have problems, your AV/Malware software may be 'protecting' the corrupt Winsocks stack. If so, make sure you have an off-line copy of your AV/Malware software:

- disconnect (physically) from internet, remove your AV/Malware software, run the NETSH command after the reboot, and re-install your AV/Malware Suite. Plug back in and test.

Something weird starting to happen today in Chrome.
I randomly get the 'This webpage is not available' message when visiting a site, but only for a brief moment, like 1 second, then the page displays.
Why is this happening? And how do I fix this?

If it just started recently, and it briefly shows an about:blank or similar, it seems to be because of a Chrome update. I noticed it in Canary a few weeks back, now in stable. If you use slow net, like tethering through a cell, you will see it does this badly. There is no 'loading' indicator, it just sits there like nothing happened..10-30seconds later it puts the url back in and starts rendering the page. Previously it would start loading the page..no blankpage then url thing like its doing now.
I think it has something to do with Chrome pre-fetch, so perhaps turning off predictive settings may help resolve it by attempting to run less async scripts. Besides that, it looks like an 'oops' on their part. Im sure it will be repaired in some coming update.

For the last 2 days, for many web sites, I keep getting 'This web page is not available'. Even received this for BleepingComputer this morning. Yet when I click on 'Reload', the page will usually load. Any thoughts why this is happening and how to fix? I don't recall any changes I have made in the last few days.
Thank you.
